I’ve been out of if it for a spell. It took me a few days to get my feet back under me when Joe and I got home from the General. I was tired from that 10-day trip and I was way behind in work and family life. My body was a wreck too but I blindly hoped that I would recover and be right back into the swing. Wrong.
When I fell on the slick GA clay on lap two, I did some damage in my knee. I can only guess (because I have not sought professional opinion) that I tore a ligament on the interior of my left knee. The first few nights after GA I had a difficult time sleeping but lots of ice, rest and stretching helped the pain and swelling go away. About the time my knee was back under me I got stupid sick with a bout of the Flu and spent two days on my back in bed. I never get sick so being forced to stay in one place for days was frustrating and irritating (although my knee got a good rest). I lost some valuable maintenance training days. The capper has been today where we saw another 7 inches of snow fall. Uncle!
I put in a solid hour of feeling things out in the gym today and I think I can go a little harder over the weekend. I also made plans to take delivery of knee braces early next week. I know being sensitive to my knee is important and that no brace will keep me from re-injury or another injury but they won’t hurt either. And if I get lucky I might get some time in on the trials bike this weekend so all is not lost. It’s best for my head if I keep these things in mind. Otherwise I might feel like I lost 14 days of constructive activities (which I did).
There are enough days between now and round 3 in Morgantown, NC for me to get my body and head straight. These next few days will be a good test.
